Tim R. Adam is the Rudolf-von-Bennigsen Professor of Corporate Finance at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, School of Business and Economics, and Director of the Humboldt Lab for Empirical and Quantitative Research. He has held visiting or permanent positions at MIT, University of Michigan, HKUST, and NUS.

Research Focus
Professor Adam’s research centers on empirical corporate finance and financial intermediation, with particular emphasis on corporate risk management, performance pricing in syndicated loans, leverage choices by mutual funds, and capital-market financing of small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany.
His recent investigations explore managerial biases in debt-contract design, selective hedging behavior in the gold-mining industry, and the implications of performance-sensitive debt for hold-up problems.

Doctoral Advising & Placements
Since 2008 Professor Adam has successfully supervised ten Ph.D. students whose initial placements include Ernst & Young, KPMG, Copenhagen Business School, DIW Berlin, and industry firms such as home24 and China National Chemical Corp. Post-doctoral mentees have secured positions at University of Bonn, University of Texas at Austin, Kyoto University, Deutsche Bank, and the Indian School of Business.
Laboratory & Collaborative Networks
He directs the Humboldt Lab for Empirical and Quantitative Research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between finance, economics, and data science to address pressing questions in corporate finance and banking.
