Tim Lee is a Professor in the Department of Dermatology & Skin Science at the University of British Columbia and a Distinguished Scientist at BC Cancer Research. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University (2001), an MSc from UBC (1983), and a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics from UBC (1980). His research intersects computing, dermatology and oncology.
Dr. Lee develops computer algorithms based on artificial intelligence for analyzing digital pigmented skin lesion images to facilitate early skin cancer detection. He designs hand-held in vivo imaging devices using laser speckle and polarization properties of light to differentiate malignant melanoma. His epidemiological research investigates environmental and genetic risk factors for melanoma.
