Tim Kirkman

Dr. Tim Kirkman is a Technical Coordinator and Lecturer in the School of Environmental and Life Sciences (Chemistry) at the University of Newcastle, within the College of Engineering, Science and Environment. He holds a PhD in analytical chemistry with a focus on forensic applications and polymer research. His roles include teaching, coordinating courses, and managing technical services.

Research interests span analytical chemistry, forensic compound analysis (illicit drugs, explosives), food/nutrient analysis, and polymer synthesis (e.g., MIPs and conductive polymers). He specializes in spectroscopy (FTIR, NMR, MS) and chromatography (HPLC, GC).

Teaching responsibilities include CHEM1110/1120 (Chemistry for Life Sciences), FSHN3230 (Food Analysis), and SCIE1002. He advocates for blended/active learning strategies to enhance student engagement.
