Dr. Tim Juckes is a researcher at the Department of Art History, Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies, University of Vienna. He currently serves as the main researcher in an Austrian Science Fund (FWF) project titled 'Visual Media and Spatial Contexts in Pre-Reformation Central Europe: The Sacred Ensemble in Spiš (Slovakia), c. 1425-1525' (P 33726-G), led by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Viktor Schwarz.
His research focuses on medieval art history with particular emphasis on Central European church architecture, spatial contexts in sacred spaces, and visual communication strategies in medieval religious settings. Juckes has published extensively on the architecture of St. Elizabeth's Church in Košice, St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, and other significant Central European religious buildings from the late medieval period.
His scholarly work demonstrates a consistent interest in the relationship between architectural spaces, liturgical practices, and visual culture in pre-Reformation Central Europe, with particular attention to the regions of Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria during the 14th-16th centuries. His research often examines how spatial arrangements and architectural features shaped religious experiences and community identities.
Juckes has been actively involved with the Pächt Archive / Research Center for Medieval Book and Image Culture at the University of Vienna, contributing to projects on illuminated manuscripts, visual media, and spatial contexts in medieval art. His interdisciplinary approach combines architectural history with art historical analysis and spatial theory.
