About
Tim Davis is an Honorary Professor of Physics at the University of Melbourne and a Mercator Fellow of the DFG GRK2642 (Photonic Quantum Engineers). He previously spent 29 years at CSIRO in Australia, working across atmospheric research, materials science, x-ray science, and more. His expertise spans experimental and theoretical physics, with a focus on plasmonics, nanoscale optical circuits, and meta-surface devices for optical imaging.
Education: PhD in Experimental Gravitation Physics from the University of Melbourne (1987).
Research interests include plasmonic difference circuits, surface plasmon polaritons, and interdisciplinary projects in chemistry, biology, and electronics engineering. Collaborates with the University of Stuttgart and University of Duisburg-Essen on fundamental plasmonics experiments.
Publications include high-impact journals like Nature, Science, and Physical Review Letters, with over 5,600 lifetime citations (H-index 33, i10-index 76).
Leadership roles: Secretary and Chairman of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Institute of Physics (AIP), Convenor of the AIP Science Policy Committee, and organizer of international conferences.
