Tim Burger is a researcher at the Institute of Social Anthropology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. He previously held positions at the University of Göttingen and the Collaborative Research Center "Vigilance Cultures" in Munich.
His research focuses on agriculture, economic practices, environmental anthropology, and value theory. Current projects include a book titled Losing the Land: Agriculture and Abandonment in the Azores and a study on tobacco cultivation in Indonesia.
Tim Burger has received funding from prestigious institutions including the ESRC, DAAD, the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, the Max Weber Program Bavaria, and the Vice-Chancellors Award from the University of Cambridge.
He has edited collections on feminist approaches to capitalism, the role of literature in ethnological thought, and ethnographic methodology. His work combines archival research with fieldwork, emphasizing moral economies and postcolonial transitions.
