About
Prof. Tilo Biedermann is a Professor of Dermatology and Allergology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), affiliated with the TUM School of Medicine and Health. His research focuses on skin immunology, immune tolerance mechanisms, and translational applications in dermatology. He obtained his medical degree from LMU Munich, completed habilitation in immunology in Vienna (2001), and held previous professorial positions at the University Hospital of Tübingen (2003–2014) before joining TUM in 2013.
His research spans from basic immunology to clinical translation, emphasizing regulatory immune pathways and inflammatory skin disorders. Notable contributions include studies on Toll-like receptor signaling in dermatitis and immunosuppression mechanisms during sepsis. He has held leadership roles such as co-spokesperson of the DFG Priority Program on mast cells (2009–2017), president of the European Society of Dermatological Research (2011–2012), and secretary general of the German Dermatological Society since 2017.
- Key Awards:
- Alfred Marchionini Research Award (2011)
- Award for Translational Research in Dermatology (2008)
- Main Immunotherapy Research Award (2005)
His work bridges fundamental immunology discoveries with clinical applications, particularly in allergic and inflammatory skin diseases. He has published extensively on cytokine regulation, T-cell dynamics, and innate immune mechanisms.
