Tiffany Momon

Tiffany Momon is Assistant Professor of History at the University of the South, where she teaches public history courses. Her research explores African American placemaking, material culture at HBCUs, and preservation of marginalized histories.

Education:

Her scholarly work examines how material objects at historically black colleges and universities document student experiences. Funded by the National Park Service, she architecturally surveyed eight Alabama HBCUs and authored National Register nominations for Stillman College and Talladega College.

As a public historian, Dr. Momon advocates for municipal archaeology ordinances and community-based documentation. She partners with HBCUs to secure preservation funding and conduct campus archaeology. Current research investigates enslaved craftsmen in Charleston, SC, presented at institutions including Colonial Williamsburg and Winterthur Museum.

She has consulted for major museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tennessee State Museum, National Civil Rights Museum, and National Museum of African American Music.
