Dr. Anderson specializes in U.S. ethnic literature, Africana studies, disability studies, and cultural studies, with particular focus on racial identity formation in contemporary America. Her scholarship examines how Black children develop racial consciousness in the era of Black Lives Matter, drawing from both academic frameworks and personal experience as a mother of three Black daughters. She teaches Introduction to Africana Studies and courses on African American literature that are cross-listed between English and Africana Studies departments.
Her research demonstrates a compelling blend of literary analysis and social critique, particularly evident in her examination of Amiri Baraka's work through the lens of political mythology. Dr. Anderson is currently writing a creative nonfiction book exploring her father's experience in the NFL and the broader implications of professional sports aspirations within the Black community.
