About
Tiago Fernandes is a Research Fellow at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) and part of the Nanochemistry department since August 2022. His work focuses on spin-polarized catalysts for energy-efficient anion-exchange membrane (AEM) water electrolysis.
Educational Background:
- BSc in Biochemistry (2011) from University of Madeira
- MSc in Nanochemistry (2015) from University of Madeira, developed at Madeira Chemistry Research Centre (CQM)
- PhD in Nanochemistry (2022) from University of Aveiro, under Prof. Tito Trindade and Dr. Ana Luísa Daniel-da-Silva, focused on dendrimer-based magneto-plasmonic nanostructures for pesticide detection via SERS.
His research spans nanochemistry, magnetic materials, environmental remediation, and optical sensing technologies. Prior to INL, he worked at nanoLAB group, CICECO, University of Aveiro, on biohybrid magnetic nanoparticles for pollutant removal from water.
