Thore Engel

Dr. Thore Engel is a Researcher at the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig, holding a post-doctoral position since June 2022. His prior role (2017–2023) was as a Doctoral Researcher at MLU Halle-Wittenberg and iDiv. He earned a B.Sc. in Molecular Ecosystem Sciences (Göttingen University) and an M.Sc. in International Master in Applied Ecology from University of Poitiers, University of Coimbra, and Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.

His interdisciplinary research focuses on biodiversity change dynamics, quantitative methods, and participatory approaches. As coordinator of the NFDI4Biodiversity project, he leads development of the 'Living Atlas of Nature Germany' portal. Key interests include art-science collaborations and digital technologies in citizen science. He collaborates widely with stakeholders on biodiversity data infrastructures and conservation policy integration.

His work spans over 15 peer-reviewed publications since 2019, emphasizing biodiversity data analysis, citizen science applications, and global ecological patterns. He actively engages in international conferences and exhibitions, bridging science with public engagement and policy.
