Thomas Visser

Professor Thomas Visser is the director of the Historic Preservation Program in the Department of History at the University of Vermont, where he has taught courses since 1985. His work centers on researching historic buildings and sites, preservation planning and policy, architectural conservation, and the history of American building technology.

Research interests include:

• Vernacular architecture
• Heritage building features
• Preservation planning
• Architectural history
• Cultural heritage conservation

Professor Visser has received scholarly recognition for his work, including a National Endowment for the Arts grant, and has authored two notable publications:
