About
Thomas Sutter is a Professor and holder of the W. Harry Feinstone Chair of Excellence in Molecular Biology at the University of Memphis. With a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (1988), his research investigates cancer causation/prevention through receptor-mediated mechanisms, xenobiotic metabolism, and genetic susceptibility.
Work focuses on aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) signaling in skin barrier regulation, microbiome interactions, and chemoprevention. Recent discoveries highlight tryptophan metabolites from commensal microbiota strengthening epidermal barrier via AhR, with implications for inflammatory skin disorders.
Publications demonstrate expertise in dioxin toxicity, keratinocyte differentiation, and metabolic reprogramming in cancer. Research integrates toxicology, microbiome science, and redox biology to elucidate environmental influences on epithelial biology.
