Thomas P. Schuman

Dr. Thomas P. Schuman is a Professor of Chemistry at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), serving since 1999. He also holds roles as Co-Director of the JIP Preformed Particle Gel (PPG) for Conformance Control Consortium and Research Investigator at the Materials Research Center. His academic journey includes a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Chemistry and Materials Science from the University of Alabama, Huntsville (1986–1992).

His research focuses on advanced materials, including coating science, corrosion inhibition, ceramic-polymer composites, and nanoparticle synthesis. He has contributed to journals like the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science and the Journal of Materials Research. Dr. Schuman has received numerous teaching awards, including recognition as a New Faculty Teaching Scholar and multiple Outstanding Instructor accolades. He remains active in professional societies, notably the American Chemical Society and Missouri S&T’s Teacher Education Program Advisory Board.
