Thomas P. Keenan

Thomas P. Keenan is a Professor at the University of Calgary, affiliated with both the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape and the Department of Computer Science. He holds prestigious fellowships from the Canadian Information Processing Society, Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute, and is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Military Security and Strategic Studies. His expertise spans cybersecurity, information warfare, and digital ethics.

Dr. Keenan earned degrees from Columbia University: BA in Philosophy, M.Sc. in Mathematics, MA in Engineering, and Ed.D. in Education. He pioneered Canada’s first computer crime course in 1974 and contributed to early legislation on digital crime. He has provided expert testimony in legal cases involving internet defamation and healthcare privacy breaches.

His research focuses on emerging tech risks such as AI-generated media manipulation, blockchain security applications, and IoT vulnerabilities. He authored over 500 academic works and the influential book Technocreep, which critiques how technology encroaches on privacy and societal norms.
