Thomas Mockaitis

Thomas Mockaitis is a Professor of History at DePaul University’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. He specializes in British, Modern European, and Military History, teaching courses on these subjects as well as in the Honors and Liberal Studies programs. His research focuses on international security, terrorism, unconventional conflict, and military history, with a particular emphasis on hybrid warfare and the interplay between conventional and irregular warfare.

His publications include award-winning works such as British Counterinsurgency, 1919–1960 (Templar Medal winner) and Conventional and Unconventional War: A History of Modern Conflict (2017; updated 2024). His scholarship examines the evolution of modern conflict, integrating case studies from the American Civil War to the Middle East.
