About
Thomas Mock is Professor of Marine Microbiology at University of East Anglia's School of Environmental Sciences and Adjunct Professor at Ocean University of China. Research investigates phytoplankton adaptation and evolution in polar/oceanic environments through integrative approaches spanning cell biology, genomics, and ecology.
Education includes:
- PhD (University of Bremen)
- MSc Biological Oceanography (Christian-Albrechts University)
Research examines fundamental biological processes governing marine microalgae adaptation, with focus on diatom evolution under climate change. Current projects include:
- KRILLGUARD: Safeguarding Southern Ocean ecosystems
- Light-driven proton pumps in oceanic primary production
- Arctic microbial biodiversity in warming oceans
Leads the Mock Research Lab with 14+ members and directs the UEA-OUC Strategic Alliance in Ocean Science. Received CAS President's International Fellowship (2024) and serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief for Journal of Phycology.
