About
Thomas List is Professor and Senior Dentist at Malmö University's Faculty of Odontology, where he leads the Orofacial Pain Unit and conducts research on jaw function disorders. His work bridges clinical dentistry and pain research, with expertise recognized through roles in national/international organizations.
Research focuses on temporomandibular disorders (TMD) through epidemiological studies across age groups, diagnostic method validation, pain mechanism investigations, and clinical trials evaluating therapeutic interventions. Key areas include:
- Longitudinal analysis of TMD progression and quality-of-life impacts
- Digital health applications for pain management
- Biomechanical and psychosocial aspects of orofacial pain
- Post-traumatic pain syndromes
Recent publications demonstrate strong emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches, with studies combining dentistry, psychology, and public health methodologies. Work frequently employs cohort designs, RCTs, and systematic reviews to address both clinical and mechanistic questions in pain research.
Professor List leads the Orofacial Pain Unit, which serves as both research center and clinical service provider for complex jaw disorders. The unit's work contributes to Malmö University's strengths in translational dental medicine.
