Thomas Laepple

Prof. Dr. Thomas Laepple holds joint appointments at the University of Bremen and Alfred Wegener Institute, where he leads the ERC Starting Grant project SPACE and serves as Deputy Head of Polar Terrestrial Environmental Systems research group. His work bridges paleoclimate reconstruction and modern climate diagnostics.

Education includes a Diploma in Physics (University of Hamburg, 2005) and Doctorate in Physics (University of Bremen, 2009). Research focuses on quantitative analysis of paleo-proxy records, climate variability across timescales, and developing statistical approaches for climate data interpretation.

Active grants include PalMod (BMBF), Digital Cores (Helmholtz Association), DEEPICE (EU H2020), and DFG Cluster of Excellence MARUM. Directs PhD students in climate diagnostics and ice core analysis methodologies.
