Thomas Kerr, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Digestive & Liver Diseases. He specializes in hepatology, with expertise in liver diseases and liver transplant medicine. Originally from Canada, he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Texas Tech University before completing his M.D. and Ph.D. at UT Southwestern. His training includes residency in internal medicine, a gastroenterology fellowship, and advanced hepatology and liver transplant training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
Dr. Kerr’s research focuses on liver cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, hepatitis C, and liver transplantation. He has contributed to scholarly publications, authored book chapters, and serves as a reviewer for journals like the American Journal of Transplantation. He is also a co-investigator on clinical trials addressing chronic liver conditions.
Professional memberships include the American College of Physicians, American Society of Transplantation, and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. His awards include the Texas Monthly Super Doctor Rising Star (2019) and the American Gastroenterological Association’s Fellow to Faculty Transition Award (2009–2010).
