Thomas Götz

Dr. Thomas Götz is a Researcher at the Chair of European History (19th and 20th Centuries) within the Faculty of Philosophy, Arts, History and Social Sciences at the University of Regensburg. He has been affiliated with the department since 2017, following prior roles as a research assistant at the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History under Prof. Franz Bauer.

Education:

• Studies in History, Modern German Literature, and Philosophy at universities in Munich and Siena.
• Master of Arts (MA) awarded in 1993.

Research Interests: His work focuses on urban and bourgeois society in the modern era, religion and society across historical transitions, historical anthropology, microhistory of the 'Saddle Period' (c. 1750–1850), and transnational comparative regional history. Recent projects include studies on Tyrolean liberalism, environmental policy in early modern Europe, and Bavarian urban history.

Teaching: In 2021/22, he taught courses on the Industrial Revolution in Germany, historical-political analyses of Panajotis Kondylis, and preparation for the state exam in modern history, all delivered digitally.

Publications: He authored monographs such as Bourgeoisie and Liberalism in Tyrol 1840–1873 (2001) and co-edited volumes like Kleine Neuburger Stadtgeschichte (2013) and Revolution in Munich (2014). He also leads the editorial series 'kleine bayerischen biografien' and 'kleine münchner geschichten.'
