Professor Thomas Graumann is Professor of Ancient Christian History and Patristic Studies at the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge, and serves as Director of Studies in Theology at Homerton College. His academic work is centered on the theological and institutional development of early Christianity, particularly during late antiquity.
His research interests include:
- History and Theology of Ancient Christianity
- Late Antique and Medieval Church Councils and Synods
- Authority and Legitimacy in Patristic Discourses
- History of Biblical Exegesis
His recent publications focus on pivotal ecclesiastical events such as the First Council of Ephesus (431) and the Synod of Constantinople (AD 383), analyzing their historical narratives and theological implications. His work engages with major Church Fathers including Ambrose of Milan, Athanasius, Cyril of Alexandria, and Origen.
He is affiliated with the ERC Starting Grant "ACO" project and has been on research leave at Bamberg to complete a monograph on the Acts of the Ecumenical Councils, reflecting his deep commitment to primary source scholarship.
