About
Dr. Thomas Gallagher is Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine. His laboratory researches molecular virology mechanisms with dual focus: coronavirus entry/assembly and extracellular vesicle-mediated intercellular transfer. The Gallagher Lab investigates determinants of pneumovirulence in zoonotic pathogens using lung-derived cell models and collaborates on animal disease modeling.
Research pillars:
- Coronavirus spike protein dynamics and host cell entry
- Virus assembly through host vesicular transport systems
- Extracellular vesicle cargo transfer mechanisms
- Pathogenesis of SARS and MERS coronaviruses
