Thomas G. Kirsch is Full Professor of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Konstanz. Educated at European University Viadrina (PhD 2002), he previously taught at Halle and Goldsmiths College, London. His research examines religion, security, and bureaucratic practices in Africa through ethnographic fieldwork in Zambia and South Africa.
Key interests include religious pluralism, charismatic authority, and the dynamics of socio-spiritual communities. Current projects study activist movements in South Africa and Myanmar, volunteerism, and long-term technological infrastructures. He edits journals including Anthropology Southern Africa and directs DFG-funded research on 'Activist Becomings'.
