Thomas Dean is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen's University and holds an Adjunct Associate Professor position at the Royal Military College of Kingston. His research focuses on software transformation, web site evolution, and the security of network applications, with additional interests in communications and networks technologies, software-defined networking (SDN), and computer security.
Dr. Dean earned his PhD in Computing and Information Science from Queen's University (1993), an MSc in Computational Science from the University of Saskatchewan (1988), and a BSc (Hons) in Computational Science from the same university (1986). He has prior industry experience as a Senior Research Scientist at Legasys Corporation, where he developed advanced software transformation techniques.
He maintains cross/joint appointments at the School of Computing (Faculty of Arts and Science) and is affiliated with the IEEE Computer Society. His work bridges academic research and industrial application, particularly in air traffic control systems and language formalization.
