Thomas Andreas Jung

Prof. Dr. Thomas Andreas Jung heads Molecular Nanoscience groups at Paul Scherrer Institute and University of Basel, where he holds an honorary professorship in the Faculty of Natural Sciences. He directs the Photo Emission and Atomic Research Laboratory (PEARL) and Atomic Force Microscopy facilities.

Research focuses on quantum materials and surface nanostructures using advanced spectro-microscopy techniques. Key interests include:

• Quantum confinement in atomically precise nanostructures
• Magnetic interactions in supramolecular assemblies
• Van der Waals forces at interfaces

Awards include Harvard Academy Junior Scholar and Swiss Physical Society Presidency.

Recent publications explore nanostructure growth kinetics, 2D ferrimagnetism, and quantum dot band formation, primarily in Nature Communications and Science.
