Thomas Alter is Associate Professor of History at Texas State University specializing in U.S. and Texas history through transnational lenses. He holds a PhD from University of Illinois at Chicago, an MA from Texas State, and BA from Indiana University. His research examines race, labor, capitalism, and protest movements across borders.
His 2022 book analyzes German-Texan agrarian radicalism influenced by European revolutions. Current projects include Texas' rise as global power (1890s-1920s) and Austin's punk scene. Teaching covers U.S. history, Texas, and labor movements.
