About
Dr. Theodore Price is the Ashbel Smith Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), leading the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences. He specializes in chronic pain mechanisms, molecular characterization of pain-sensing neurons, and developing novel therapeutics. His research integrates pharmacology, genetics, and electrophysiology to understand pain plasticity.
Education:
- B.S. in Neuroscience, UTD (1997)
- Ph.D. in Pharmacology, University of Texas Health Science Center (2003)
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: Anesthesiology at McGill University (2004–2007), Pharmacology at UT Health San Antonio (2004)
Research Focus: Investigates chronic pain origins, including migraine and neuropathic pain. His lab explores peripheral and central nervous system plasticity, with a focus on human sensory neurons. Recent work includes identifying novel pain targets and advancing non-opioid therapies. He co-founded CerSci Therapeutics to translate research into clinical applications.
Publications: Over 200 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Cell, Science Translational Medicine, and PAIN. Recent work emphasizes human pain mechanisms, spinal cord injury effects, and drug discovery platforms.
Awards:
- Patrick D. Wall Young Investigator Award (2014)
- John C. Liebeskind Early Career Scholar Award (2011)
- UTD Buhrmester Rising Star Award (2012)
Advising & Grants: Mentored over 10 PhD students and postdocs. Serves on editorial boards of PAIN, European Journal of Neuroscience, and Molecular Pain. Active in NIH review panels and international pain societies.
Labs & Affiliations: Directs the Center for Advanced Pain Studies (CAPS) and collaborates with institutions like MD Anderson Cancer Center. His work bridges basic science and clinical translation, aiming to reduce pain-related disability globally.
