About
Theo Klein was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Centre for Blood Research, University of British Columbia (2011–2017). His research focuses on protease biology, particularly the role of MALT-1 in lymphocyte function and its implications in immune signaling. He collaborated with Dr. Stuart Turvey on studying MALT-1 proteolysis in immunodeficient patients and with Dr. Brett Finlay on Salmonella's effects on host proteolytic pathways.
Education:
- PhD, Analytical Biochemistry, University of Groningen (2008)
- PharmD, University of Groningen (2004)
- MSc, Pharmacy (major in Analytical Chemistry), University of Groningen (2001)
Research Interests: Klein’s work centers on MALT-1’s role in NF-κB signaling, lymphocyte activation, and pathogen-host interactions. His projects include:
- Investigating MALT-1’s proteolytic substrates in immune cells
- Examining Salmonella’s modulation of host proteolytic pathways
- Developing proteomics tools like TAILS (Terminal Amine Isotope Labeling of Substrates) to study proteolysis
Grants and Collaborations:
- Collaboration with Dr. Turvey (CFRI) on MALT-1’s role in immunodeficiency
- Work with Dr. Finlay (UBC) on Salmonella’s proteolytic effects
Labs and Teams: Klein contributed to the Overall Lab at UBC, focusing on protease biology and its applications in immunity and infectious diseases.
