Dr. Thania Muñoz D. is an Associate Professor of Spanish, Latin American, and Latinx literature at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). She serves as the Managing Editor in Chief and Founder of Latino Literatures – A Cultural and Literary Journal and is core faculty in the INCC MA program and affiliate faculty in Gender + Women’s, + Sexuality Studies and Language, Literacy and Culture.

Her research focuses on the marginalization of Spanish/Spanglish as literary languages in the U.S., contemporary Latin American and Latinx immigrant literature, and memory/intertextuality. She pioneers community-engaged scholarship through projects like “Intercultural Tales: Learning With Baltimore’s Immigrant Communities” and the advisory board of Moving Stories: Latinas in Baltimore, challenging traditional academic boundaries.
Recent Publications emphasize transnational identity, digital storytelling, and literary resistance, with works appearing in the Journal of Community Engagement in Higher Education, Latin American Literary Review, and MARLAS. Her book project Canons Without Immigrants redefines immigrant literature’s role in U.S. academia.
Creative Work includes the poetry collection Terca and translations of Carmen Lucía Alvarado Benítez’s works. She teaches courses like Spanish for Heritage Speakers, Latinx Literature in Translation, and The Political Economy of Culture.
