Thaddeus Niles

Thaddeus Niles is a Lecturer and Director of Expository Writing at the English Department of Skidmore College, with a specialization in ESL (English as a Second Language). He holds a B.A. in English from Hiram College (2007), an M.A. in TESOL from Kent State University (2010), and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Curriculum and Instruction at the University at Albany.

His research and teaching focus on Grammar and Linguistics, Genre Pedagogy, and Argumentation in Cross-Cultural Contexts. He has contributed to the development of expository writing programs and serves as an ESL specialist, emphasizing corpus-based approaches to language instruction.

Niles previously coordinated the SKELI Program (2011–2016) and teaches writing seminars such as EN 103 and EN 105. He has piloted resources like the Excelsior College ESL-WOW platform and the COCA Corpus training modules for instructors, while also creating academic introduction mini-modules for writing educators.

As Director of Expository Writing and Writing Center staff member, he supports student writing development and faculty pedagogy at Skidmore College. His office is located in Scribner Library 442, and he can be reached at (518) 580-8114.
