Tess Bilhartz

Tess Bilhartz is a Continuing Education Instructor at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, where she teaches art. She is also based in New York City and teaches at Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY). Her artistic practice focuses on sculpture and painting, with recent solo exhibitions including Follow Me Down at Rubber Factory (2022) and What On Earth at Super Dutchess (2020). She has participated in notable residencies such as the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2017) and the Sharpe Walentas Space Program (2013). Bilhartz is an active writer, contributing regularly to Bomb Magazine and publishing in The Brooklyn Rail.

Her research interests intersect artistic practice with curatorial and critical writing, reflecting on contemporary art's engagement with social and environmental themes. Her exhibitions and writings demonstrate a commitment to exploring materiality, spatial dynamics, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
