Terry Papillon is a Professor of Classics and Rhetoric at the University of the South (Sewanee), where he served as Academic Dean from 2014 to 2023. Previously, he held positions at Virginia Tech including Assistant Vice Provost, Director of the University Honors Program (2008-2014), and Professor of Classics (1992-2014), with earlier teaching roles at the University of North Carolina, University of Minnesota-Duluth, and Marquette University.

- Ph.D. in Classical Philology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
His research specializes in Greek rhetoric, particularly the works of Isocrates, resulting in two authored books and numerous scholarly articles. He served as editor of the online journal Electronic Antiquity and currently holds the position of International Secretary for Societas Isocratica (the International Isocrates Society). Teaching responsibilities encompass ancient Greek, Latin, classical civilization, mythology, and rhetoric, with extensive experience leading study abroad programs.
