Dr. Terry P McDaniel is a Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at Indiana State University's Bayh College of Education. He also serves as Executive Director of Administrative Placement, Executive Director of the Educational Development Council, and advisor to Ed.S. and Ph.D. programs in Educational Leadership. With 46 years in education, his career spans teaching, administration, and academia, including 14 years as Principal of Spencer Elementary School and nine years as Superintendent of Spencer-Owen Schools before transitioning to higher education in 2005.
Dr. McDaniel holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Indiana State University (2003), an Ed.S. (1983), M.S. (1977), and B.S. (1973). His research focuses on teacher shortages, superintendent leadership, school safety, and educational policy. He has authored numerous articles in academic journals like Journal of School Business Management and School Administrator.
He has received awards including the 2016 Paul A. Kinser Development Award and the 2005 Indiana Superintendent of the Year. His consulting work includes advising over 65 Ph.D. graduates and collaborating with school districts statewide. Key grants include the $7M Indiana Principal Leadership Institute and the $264K Education Leadership Initiative for Student Achievement.
Dr. McDaniel’s service includes roles on the University Research Committee and Sycamore Educational Consulting. He advises school districts on superintendent searches, leadership development, and strategic planning, serving over 30 districts annually through Indiana State’s Search Team.
