Terry Lamb is a Professor of Languages and Interdisciplinary Pedagogy at the University of Westminster, affiliated with the School of Humanities and the Westminster Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation. With a career spanning secondary education and higher education, Terry has taught at the University of Nottingham, University of Sheffield, and now leads interdisciplinary pedagogical research at Westminster.
- Education: BSc(Hons) in Modern Languages (Aston University), PGCE (Durham University), MA in Urban Education (King’s College London), PhD from University of Nottingham (focus: learner voice, motivation, and autonomy in secondary schools).
Research Interests: Terry’s work bridges urban education, multilingualism and plurilingualism, and pedagogy for autonomy. Key areas include:
- Interdisciplinary approaches to language learning, integrating sociology, psychology, and urban studies.
- Developing plurilingual habitus in super-diverse urban spaces to challenge monolingual norms.
- Policy influence through roles in the Fédération Internationale des Professeurs de Langues Vivantes (FIPLV) (President) and the Council of Europe’s Language Policy Advisory Group (2024).
- Leadership in the HOMELandS Research Centre on migration and the Westminster Learning Communities initiative.

- Senate Award for Sustained Excellence in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts
Advising and Leadership: Terry has supervised 25 doctoral students globally and co-founded the journal Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching (2007). As Secretary General of FIPLV (2022–2027), Terry advocates for teacher associations’ policy roles. Editorial roles span 12 academic journals and four Italian book series.
