Terrance Weik

Dr. Terrance Weik is Professor and Graduate Director in the Department of Anthropology at the University of South Carolina's McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. A historical archaeologist specializing in African diaspora studies, his research examines antislavery resistance, social identity formation, and intercultural engagements between Africans and Indigenous peoples in the Americas.

His fieldwork spans plantation sites, maroon settlements, and urban contexts across Florida, Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Mississippi, and South Carolina. Current research investigates Chickasaw slaveholding, African agency, frontier entrepreneurship, and parallels between African displacement and Indian Removal. He has directed projects including archaeological surveys at Strawberry Plains Audubon Center (Mississippi) and the Seibels House (South Carolina).

Dr. Weik has chaired multiple graduate committees and received research funding from Wenner-Gren Foundation and University of South Carolina. His extensive publications include the books The Archaeology of Antislavery Resistance and The Archaeology of Removal in North America.
