About
Dr. Tekla Lee-Fowler is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine. She holds a DVM from Mississippi State University (2005) and an MS from the University of Missouri, complemented by an ACVIM board certification. Her career includes a small animal internship at Mississippi State, a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at Missouri, and a post-doctoral fellowship focused on feline asthma immunology.
Research Interests: Her work centers on feline respiratory diseases—particularly asthma mechanisms—with parallel investigations in immunology and obesity comorbidities. Research employs experimental models to explore diagnostic biomarkers (e.g., endothelin-1), therapeutic interventions (masitinib, lidocaine), and immunologic pathways.
Publication Trends: Recent articles (2009-2014) demonstrate sustained focus on feline asthma pathophysiology, parasitic interactions (Dirofilaria, Toxocara), and comparative efficacy of glucocorticoids, immunotherapies, and mucolytics. Studies frequently utilize bronchoalveolar lavage, CT imaging, and IgE quantification.
