Dr. Ted Shields is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida International University's Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs. He holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2002), an M.S. in Justice Administration from American University (1995), and a B.A. in Justice, Law and Society from American University (1993). Prior to joining FIU in 2013, he served as faculty at The College of The Bahamas, University of Puerto Rico, Charleston Southern University, and Keiser University.
His research focuses on:
- Online teaching methodologies in criminology
- Drug-crime relationships
- Cybercrime patterns and prevention
- Developments in criminological theory
As a generalist scholar, Dr. Shields teaches across the criminology/criminal justice discipline. His work bridges academic research with practical applications in law enforcement education.
