Ted Poor is an Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle. A renowned drummer, he has performed with prestigious artists such as Bill Frisell, Pat Metheny, and Andrew Bird, and has contributed to albums like Are You Serious and My Finest Work Yet. His debut collaborative release You Already Know (with saxophonist Andrew D’Angelo and producer Blake Mills) is set for release through New Deal Records.
Education: Graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 2003. Career highlights include a decade in New York City’s jazz and indie-rock scenes, collaborations with producers Michel Froom and Blake Mills, and regular performances on Live From Here with Chris Thile.
Research interests focus on contemporary music performance, fusion of jazz with indie-rock aesthetics, and pedagogy in jazz studies. His artistic work spans recordings, international tours, and cross-genre collaborations.
Currently serves as drummer for Andrew Bird’s band and John Scofield’s Long Days Quartet, with upcoming European performances in 2025 across Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, and beyond. Endorses C&C Drums.
