Associate Professor Ted Nannicelli is Deputy Head of the School of Communication and Arts at The University of Queensland (UQ), and an affiliate of the Centre for Critical and Creative Writing. He holds a BA from Emory University, an MA from Temple University, and a PhD from the University of Kent. His research spans aesthetics, film and television studies, media theory, and ethical criticism of art. He has authored books like Artistic Creation and Ethical Criticism (2020) and edited volumes including A Companion to Motion Pictures and Public Value (2022). His work explores intersections between art, ethics, and cognition, with recent focus on AI ethics in art, environmental art, and moral understanding through media.
Publications include over 35 journal articles and 26 book chapters, addressing topics like cinematic ethics, television temporality, and interactive documentary. He has supervised numerous research projects and serves as a media expert on aesthetic and cultural issues. His academic roles include former editor of Projections: The Journal for Movies and Mind and fellow of the Society for Cognitive Studies of the Moving Image.
Research interests emphasize philosophical questions about artistic agency, ethical criticism, and the cognitive impacts of media. Current projects include a special issue on AI, art, and ethics for The Polish Journal of Aesthetics. He is available for supervision and collaborations, particularly in seaside/beachside locations.
