About
Ted McLachlan is a Research Professor and Senior Scholar in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Architecture. His work bridges research, creative practice, and pedagogy, focusing on landscape studies, urban design, and photographic documentation.
His research explores vernacular landscapes, urban spatial dynamics, and artistic representation. Key projects include the Transcontinental Transect (a decade-long study of North America’s central landscapes using digital panoramic photography), Portals and Passageways (a photographic analysis of urban spatial elements in cities like New York and Venice), and Porcinai Portfolios (a photogravure exhibition of Italian modernist landscapes).
McLachlan employs innovative methods such as the Noblex panoramic camera and photogravure printing (a rare skill in Manitoba). His work has been exhibited in group shows across Canada and aims to blend art, design, and environmental inquiry.
No formal awards or student advising records are noted here. Collaborations include the Martha Street Studio in Winnipeg for printmaking.
