Tasniem Anwar

Tasniem Anwar is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law and Department of Criminology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds a dual appointment in the Empirical and Normative Studies division. Her research focuses on counter-terrorism law, security technology, and post-colonial legal frameworks. Anwar earned her PhD (2017-2022) on terrorism financing investigation and prosecution. She currently leads the FUTURESEC research project (2024-Present) and contributes to the 'Courtroom as a Landscape' initiative (2022-Present). She teaches courses on extremism, terrorism, and crime prevention.

Her expertise spans court procedural analysis, legal technology's impact on counter-terrorism, and the intersection of social media with political disinformation. Ancillary activities include advising roles at the European Centre Not-for-profit Law since 2022.

Notable grants include funding for examining data-driven security policies (2024), courtroom landscape studies (2024), and monitoring ideological determinations (2022). Her work bridges legal theory with empirical research, emphasizing ethnographic methods in terrorism trial analysis.
