Tarik ROUKNY

Tarik ROUKNY is Professor of Finance at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), with additional prestigious affiliations as a fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an expert in financial stability at the European Systemic Risk Board.

His research focuses on the critical intersection of financial markets, emerging technologies, and regulatory frameworks. ROUKNY explores how financial systems have historically functioned as social technologies that enable societal development, examining concepts like currency, debt, and securities that predate written language itself.

He delivered the notable conference "Finance as a social technology" through the Royal Academy of Belgium and College of Belgium, where he analyzed finance's historical role, contemporary challenges, and future evolution in relation to economics, research, and culture.
