About
Dr. Tarek Shazly is Professor and Graduate Director in Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Carolina, leading research in cardiovascular biomechanics and medical device design. His laboratory develops computational models and experimental approaches to optimize endovascular technologies including drug-eluting stents and bioresorbable scaffolds.
Current investigations examine vascular tissue mechanics, implant-tissue interactions, and therapeutic delivery systems for cardiovascular applications. His NIH-funded work has produced novel insights into arterial remodeling mechanisms and design criteria for next-generation vascular implants.
Dr. Shazly's research integrates continuum mechanics, computational modeling, and experimental validation to address challenges in cardiovascular medicine. He holds a Ph.D. from MIT and leads graduate programs in biomedical engineering.
