Tarak El Haj

Tarak El Haj is a researcher and legal professional with affiliations at multiple institutions. Currently, he serves as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Political Science of Luiss Guido Carli (Rome) under the PRIN 2022 MiReIL project focusing on religion-based refugee claims. He also holds an Adjunct Professor role at the University of Macerata's Department of Economy and Law for the 2023/2024 academic year, teaching European Union Law and European Funds. Additionally, he practices law in Corporate and Commercial Law.

Education:

• Ph.D. in International Law from the University of Macerata, with a thesis on EU copyright harmonization from a private international law perspective.

Research Focus: His work bridges European Union law, international migration frameworks, and religious freedom protections. The MiReIL project explores how EU and international refugee law address religion-related asylum claims, while his thesis investigated cross-border copyright disputes in the EU context.

Academic Mobility: He gained research experience as a Visiting Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition (Munich), specializing in intellectual property and innovation law.
