About
Dr. Tara Sabir serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences at Leeds Beckett University, teaching Biochemistry within the Biomedical Sciences BSc program. Her expertise stems from a PhD in biochemistry and biophysics with specialization in single molecule fluorescence nanotechnology, followed by industry experience in commercial spin-off companies and postdoctoral research at the University of Manchester's Photon Science Institute.
Her research spans critical areas in molecular biophysics:
- Single molecule photonics techniques including FRET and fluorescence lifetime analysis
- Molecular dynamics and structural characterization of small biomolecules
- Optical instrumentation development for advanced microscopy
- Application of these methods to viral pathogens (Dengue, Zika, and SARS-CoV-2)
Dr. Sabir currently supervises Alexander Smith's work on TCSPC/FRET instrumentation development and viral research, while maintaining ongoing collaborative projects with former student Joel Crossley on Dengue virus studies. She actively partners with the University of Leeds Single Molecules Facility and University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice on international research initiatives.
