Tanya R. Shanklin

Tanya R. Shanklin serves as Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Morgan State University's School of Architecture and Planning. A seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience, she is an Allied Member of ASID (Washington/Metro Chapter #37), IDEC member, and LEED Green Associate. Her career spans federal, corporate, and healthcare projects including space planning, construction documentation, and GSA vendor coordination.

Her educational background includes:

• B.S. in Interior Design with minor in Architecture from Howard University
• M.A. in Interior Design from Marymount University

Professor Shanklin's research focuses on interior design curriculum innovation, post-pandemic workplace transformation, underrepresentation of African Americans in design professions, and sustainable/universal design for aging populations. She emphasizes practical integration of accessibility standards and environmental responsibility across academic and professional contexts.

Her publications analyze ADA compliance in workspace design for disabled/aging populations and evidence-based return-to-workplace strategies post-COVID-19, reflecting her commitment to creating adaptable, inclusive interior environments through empirical design research.

As an experienced AutoCAD operator with two decades of Autodesk expertise, she contributes to community revitalization through volunteer work with Prince George’s County Neighborhood Design Center and teaches foundational courses including ARCH 201 (Design I) and INTD 302 (Interior Design Studio III).
