Tanvi Thakkar is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL) and a Research Associate at the Binaural Hearing and Speech Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She leads the Cognitive Hearing and Devices (CHAD) Lab at UWL, focusing on auditory perception and cochlear implant research.
Education: B.S. in Psychology (Minor: Neuroscience) from University of Maryland-College Park (2011); Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from UW-Madison (2019).
Research Interests: Investigates binaural hearing, cochlear implant technology, and psychoacoustic mechanisms. Her work addresses challenges faced by bilateral cochlear implant (BiCI) users in noisy environments and explores improvements in binaural cue processing. Current projects include developing the CCi-Mobile research platform and studying listening effort in single-sided deafness patients.
Grants & Awards: Received the 2020 WiSys Ignite Grant to advance cochlear implant studies in underserved communities and create educational opportunities for UWL students in audiology.
Advising & Lab Work: Involves students in patient assessments, psychoacoustic research, and acoustic equipment operation. Her labs collaborate across institutions to bridge clinical and experimental auditory research.
