Tansu Alpcan is a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at the University of Melbourne, Australia. With over two decades of international research experience (USA, Germany, Australia), he leads WILAB and is a member of the Communications and Networks Group at EEE. His research focuses on AI and Machine Learning applications to Engineering, with an H-index of 52 and over 200 peer-reviewed publications. He has designed 7 subjects and played a lead role in establishing the EEE AI specialization.
- Current Teaching: Modelling and Analysis for AI (MOANA), Applied Deep Learning for Engineers
- Past Teaching: System Optimisation and Machine Learning (2019-2024), Communication Networks (2014-2023), Distributed Systems and Game Theory (2016-2018)
Research Interests include Game Theory, Cybersecurity, Quantum Machine Learning, Smart Grids, and Industry 4.0. His work bridges theoretical advancements with practical applications in communication networks, IoT, and advanced manufacturing.
Scientific Awards include multiple Best Paper Awards (IEEE ICC, ICIMP, ACM Multimedia), IEEE Senior Membership, and a Northrop Grumman Professorial Scholarship. He has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s students to graduation.
