Tanja Spatz

Tanja Spatz is a Lecturer for music theory and aural training at the Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts (HMDK Stuttgart), where she has worked since 2022. Her work emphasizes methodological innovation in teaching across university, pre-university, and non-university contexts, with a focus on practical music theory instruction and listening-based engagement with music.

• Doctoral research at the University of Music Freiburg explores hybridization of 18th-century figured bass treatises, particularly those of John Casper Heck.
• Co-developer of the third-party funded KoALa project integrating digital tools into music education.

Her broader research interests span music theory, aural pedagogy, and digital innovation, grounded in the principle that musical practice underpins all learning and research. Additionally, she actively participates in choir projects as a director and accompanist.
